Jamal Musiala’s Health Update: Managing Neurological Condition

Jamal Musiala’s latest scare did not come from a crunching tackle or a wild challenge. It came out of nowhere, in a friendly.

The Bayern Munich playmaker collapsed on the pitch for the second time in four days during a pre-season win over Heidenheim, sending a jolt of anxiety through the club and its supporters. The 23-year-old looked dazed, required on-field treatment and was helped off – a chilling repeat of a similar incident against RB Leipzig earlier in the week.

This time, there were answers.

Musiala later released a statement confirming he has been diagnosed with temporary, brief absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction. The episodes, while short, have been dramatic enough to stop games and spark real concern about one of Europe’s most gifted attacking midfielders.

Inside Bayern, the alarm has been met with action rather than panic. Sporting director Max Eberl has made it clear the club is fully informed about Musiala’s condition and is supporting him closely as specialists work through the details of his treatment and monitoring.

To help frame what Musiala is facing, German outlet BILD turned to Prof. Christoph Kleinschnitz, head of neurology at the University Hospital Essen. His assessment underlined both the seriousness and the manageability of the situation.

“From a neurological perspective, this could potentially be an epileptic seizure. It could be a form of absence epilepsy, as symptoms such as brief periods of unresponsiveness are consistent with it,” he explained, stressing that a full picture of the medical findings would be needed for a definitive classification.

The key line for Bayern and for Musiala? The condition is highly treatable.

“It is highly treatable, but would require long-term therapy. Musiala can continue playing football,” Prof. Kleinschnitz said, offering the kind of clarity every elite athlete craves when health questions arise.

For Musiala, this is another hurdle in what has already been a brutally interrupted spell in his young career. He missed a significant stretch of the 2025-26 season after a devastating combination of injuries – a fractured fibula plus a dislocated and broken ankle – suffered during the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. Just as he has been working to rediscover rhythm and sharpness, a new, very different challenge has emerged.

The task now is a delicate balance: continuing his comeback from major orthopaedic trauma while managing a newly diagnosed neurological condition that demands long-term care and strict routines. Doctors and experts, though, remain confident that with proper treatment the issue should not derail his career.

That belief shapes the mood at Säbener Straße. Musiala is receiving top-level medical care, and by all accounts he is optimistic about the daily structure and therapy he now has to follow. Bayern, for their part, are already thinking about football again – specifically, when their No. 10 can be fully reintegrated as they hunt trophies on multiple fronts in the coming season.

The support network around him is strong. The club, his family and his friends are firmly in his corner as he navigates the next phase of his treatment plan, step by step, appointment by appointment.

Now the wait belongs to the fans. They will not just be counting the days until Musiala is back in a Bayern shirt, gliding past defenders and threading passes. They will be waiting for one simple signal from the medical staff – the all-clear that says he can do it safely, and that this frightening chapter can be turned into just another obstacle he has overcome on his way to the peak of the game.
