Genk Signs Uruguay International Kevin Amaro as New Full-Back
Genk have dipped into South America again – and they think they’ve found their next attacking full-back.
The Belgian Pro League side have confirmed the signing of Uruguay international Kevin Amaro, a 22-year-old right-back arriving from Liverpool Montevideo on a five-year deal. It’s a long-term bet, exactly the kind Genk like to make.
Another Latin American full-back for Genk
Genk know this market. They built a pathway for Daniel Muñoz, who came in from Colombia, flourished in Belgium and moved on to Crystal Palace, where he has since lifted European silverware. Amaro now walks into that shadow, with the expectation that he can carve out his own route to the top.
He doesn’t arrive as a raw unknown either. Amaro made his Liverpool debut in the 2022 season, but his real breakthrough came in 2024, when he forced his way into the first team and stayed there. He went on to play 42 games that year, scoring once from the right side.
The following campaign underlined his consistency. In 2025 he featured 34 times, again finding the net once, and he has already added 17 more appearances for Liverpool this season before Genk made their move.
Versatility and international pedigree
Amaro brings more than just numbers. Comfortable anywhere down the right flank, he offers Genk both a traditional right-back and a more advanced option on that side, a profile that fits neatly with the club’s preference for dynamic, front-foot full-backs.
His performances in Uruguay have also pushed him into the national-team picture. He has already been capped at senior level, adding international experience to his rapid club development.
A new piece for an uncertain start
Genk have opened their league campaign with one win and one defeat, a start that leaves questions about consistency and balance in the side. Amaro’s arrival is designed to address some of that, injecting energy and competition into the right-hand channel.
Now comes the real test: can the latest recruit from Latin America turn Genk’s calculated gamble into the next success story?
