Enzo Fernández Focused on World Cup Amid Chelsea Uncertainty
Enzo Fernández’s future at Chelsea hangs in the air, but his mind, his agent insists, is nowhere near the transfer market.
Javier Pastore, who represents the Argentina midfielder, has acknowledged that plans are being drawn up in case a move becomes necessary. The groundwork is being laid. The door, though, is not yet open.
“We’re looking at possibilities for him to leave Chelsea, but there’s nothing concrete or confirmed with any club,” Pastore said, speaking to Marca. The message was clear: options are being explored, not executed.
For now, everything revolves around the World Cup.
“He’s only thinking about that [World Cup],” Pastore underlined. Argentina stand on the brink of the last 16, and Fernández has become one of the quiet engines of their campaign, his performances growing in authority with each game.
Madrid talk, but no Madrid deal
Speculation around Fernández always seems to circle back to Madrid. His recent comments about the Spanish capital lit up the rumour mill, yet Pastore moved quickly to cool the noise.
The connection, he explained, is more personal than professional.
“He has many friends there, and he’s very good friends with Julián Álvarez, and in the end, they spend all their free time together there,” Pastore said. “And I also live in Madrid. Every time he traveled, it was to see me and to sort out work matters, but besides that: who doesn’t like Madrid? I didn’t even play in Madrid. I even live there.”
It was a pointed clarification. Trips to Madrid, yes. A deal with Madrid, no. At least not yet.
A midfielder reshaped for Messi
What cannot be disputed is how important Fernández has become to Argentina’s structure. Pastore highlighted just how much his role has evolved over the last few years.
“Enzo has changed his position a lot in recent years. He’s played deep or as a midfielder getting forward into the box,” he said. With the national team, that versatility has turned into something more specific, and more valuable.
“Here with the national team, he starts deep, but ultimately he’s the only midfielder who gets forward and is close to Messi. He’s a player who adapts very well to any position.”
That balance — disciplined at the base, daring near the box — has helped Argentina “win comfortably” in their first two matches, as Pastore put it. The agent described his client as “very positive” and “having a great World Cup”, a player whose form is peaking at the right time on the biggest stage.
So the picture is split in two. On one side, the uncertainty at Chelsea, the search for a pathway out that still lacks a destination. On the other, a midfielder driving Argentina towards the knockout rounds, locked in on a single objective.
For Enzo Fernández, the transfer window can wait. The World Cup will not.
