Tottenham's Late Changes: Savio Ruled Out for Newcastle Clash

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has been forced into a late rethink of his attacking plans for today’s clash with Matthias Jaissle’s Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as new signing Savio was ruled out on the eve of the game.

“There was bad news yesterday, before training in the afternoon. He suffered muscle fatigue and the medical staff didn’t want to take a risk. I agree with them,” De Zerbi told Sky Sports, cutting through the excitement with a dose of medical reality.

The 22-year-old is expected to be back in contention for next weekend’s trip to Nottingham Forest, but for now he sits this one out. In his absence, another fresh face steps into the spotlight.

Omar Marmoush, also formerly of Manchester City and brought in earlier this week on an initial loan with a £60million obligation to buy, goes straight into the starting XI to make his full debut. The forward is handed an immediate chance to justify that hefty future fee and help drag Spurs towards their first league win of the campaign.

He is not the only notable name in the headlines. Richarlison was a surprise omission from the matchday squad, the Brazilian’s absence from even the bench adding another layer of intrigue to a summer in which his future at the club has been repeatedly questioned.

There was at least one boost for De Zerbi. Mohammed Kudus, sidelined since January with a stubborn thigh problem, has finally shaken off his issues enough to take a place among the substitutes. For a Spurs side searching for rhythm and answers after that Brentford defeat, even the sight of Kudus back on the teamsheet offers a sliver of optimism on a day shaped by late disruption.
