Patrick Dorgu Withdraws from Denmark Squad Amid Injury Woes, Says Coach Brian Riemer
Denmark coach Brian Riemer has revealed his frustration as Patrick Dorgu, the Manchester United defender, had to pull out from the national squad because of an injury. The Danish side is currently grappling with numerous absences that are complicating team selection.
Denmark Faces Growing Injury Crisis
Dorgu’s departure came after he limped off during Denmark’s recent 2-0 win against Wales in the UEFA Nations League. This latest injury adds to a mounting list of unavailable players including established internationals such as Andreas Christensen, Alexander Bah, Albert Gronbaek, and Kasper Dolberg—all sidelined since the original squad announcement.
"We’re sending him home now; he’s out and won’t be ready for next week. Further tests will determine how long he’ll be sidelined," Riemer told Bold.
Loss of Dorgu Affects Denmark’s Tactical Options
Dorgu's absence hits Denmark’s flexibility on the left flank where he played a key role. Riemer admitted his squad lacks depth in certain positions and that the remaining players are feeling the strain physically due to heavy demands during this international window.
"I’ve never seen anything like this before. Seven or eight players who would normally be guaranteed spots in a 23-man squad aren’t here—they either didn’t come or have already gone home. Now Dorgu is out too. It’s really frustrating," Riemer said to TV2.
Possible Replacements Being Considered
To cover the gap on the wings, Riemer plans to call up new players soon. He is reviewing several options, including experienced veterans and younger talents performing well abroad, who can quickly adjust to international demands.
"It could be Anders Dreyer, it might be Andreas Skov Olsen, who’s started well in Turkey, or maybe one of the young players," Riemer told Bold when discussing potential late additions.
Rasmus Hojlund Reacts to Teammate’s Injury
The injury news was a blow to Rasmus Hojlund, who expressed sympathy for Dorgu and underscored his importance to both the national team and their former club. Hojlund noted that losing such a key player for an extended period would be tough to handle.
"I think it’s a shame. He’s a big profile for us and my former club too. If he’s out for a long time, it’s obviously disappointing," Hojlund told TV2.
