Giacomo Raspadori Withdraws from Italy's Nations League Squad Before France Clash

Giacomo Raspadori will miss Italy’s upcoming Nations League games against France and Turkiye after withdrawing because of injury. The Atalanta forward left the national team camp early following medical checks that confirmed he couldn’t play in the upcoming fixtures.

Injury Forces Early Exit

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Tuesday evening that Raspadori will return to his club after doctors determined he was not fit for the demanding matches ahead. His departure removes a key attacking option for coach Roberto Mancini during this international break.

Raspadori had to leave the field at halftime due to injury during Italy’s 4-1 win over Turkiye, adding to fitness worries after Nicolo Zaniolo had already left the squad before that game.

"Giacomo Raspadori, meanwhile, was given complete rest. The Atalanta forward underwent medical tests and, after it was confirmed that he will be unavailable for the upcoming matches, will return to his club," said the official statement from FIGC.

Adjustments Ahead of France Encounter

Raspadori will now watch from the sidelines when Italy face Zinedine Zidane’s France at Stade de France on Friday, followed by a home match against Turkiye in Bologna on October 5.

Despite the setback, the team remains upbeat after their strong performance in Bursa. The squad returned to Coverciano to prepare for the French game, with coach Mancini managing player workloads carefully. Starters from the recent match focused on recovery, while other players trained intensively with tactical drills at Fiorentina’s Viola Park facilities. This method helps keep most of the squad fresh despite missing one attacker.

Pressure on Forward Line

Italy’s efficiency in front of goal has been under scrutiny lately. Their four-goal victory over Turkiye offered some relief, but losing a player like Raspadori—known for his movement and skill—poses new challenges. Mancini must decide whether to bring in a replacement or depend on the current squad depth.
