Syracuse Falls to Boston College Despite 19 Shots

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse created the chances. Boston College scored the goals.

Despite pouring in 19 shots to the Eagles’ 8, the Orange walked away with nothing to show for their pressure in a 2-0 defeat Friday night at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field. The loss drops Syracuse to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while Boston College moves to 4-1-1 and 1-1-0.

For 45 minutes, Syracuse pushed and probed, but the final touch never arrived. Crosses flashed through the box. Shots rose over the bar or thudded into defenders. Boston College bent but did not break.

The breakthrough went the other way.

In the 53rd minute, Michael Asare punished Syracuse’s wastefulness, putting Boston College in front and flipping the tone of the night. The Orange, suddenly chasing, kept coming but still couldn’t solve the Eagles’ back line.

The pressure finally told again — for the hosts. Russell Brown doubled the lead, finishing off a move created by Moritz Gundelach, whose assist carved open the Syracuse defense and effectively settled the contest.

At the other end, Syracuse goalkeeper Kyle Jansen was rarely called into action, credited with one save as Boston College made the most of its limited looks. The stat sheet favored the Orange. The scoreboard did not.

Syracuse now turns quickly to a chance at redemption, heading on the road again to face Colgate on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., needing not more shots, but sharper ones.
