Sheffield United's Late Collapse Against Wolverhampton

Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper admitted the Blades “switched off” at the death as a 90th-minute strike from Raul Jimenez snatched all three points for Wolverhampton Wanderers at Bramall Lane.

Jimenez settled a tight Championship contest with a close-range finish, pouncing after Tommy Doyle’s miscued shot broke kindly for the Mexico international, who reacted sharply to steer the ball past Cooper for a 1-0 away win.

The late blow leaves United 14th in the early-season table, five points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

“In the 90th minute, ultimately, we’ve switched off and let them in,” Cooper told BBC Radio Yorkshire, laying bare his frustration after a largely disciplined display was undone in the final moments.

“Really disappointed with that. We know how disappointed the fans will be going home.

“It’s a bit of a sucker punch. Credit to the lads, obviously, the effort was there for 90 minutes but just that split-second against a team like that, as a unit, we can’t switch off the way we did. Bitterly disappointing.

“Everyone’s training so hard. The amount of info we’re getting from staff is phenomenal. There’s no complaints from anyone. It’s just about putting the practice into games.”

For Cooper and Sheffield United, the message is clear: the work is there from Monday to Friday. The next step is proving they can stay locked in until the very last kick.
