Scott McTominay Out for a Month Due to Heart Surgery

Scott McTominay will be out for a month after Napoli confirmed the midfielder needs surgery to correct a minor heart issue.

The Serie A club announced on Tuesday that the 29-year-old has developed a "mild, benign arrhythmia" – an irregular heartbeat that requires a procedure but is not considered dangerous.

Napoli said McTominay will undergo corrective ablation surgery (PFA) in the coming days and expect him to return to action after the international break.

Impact on Scotland

The timing is a blow for Scotland. The former Manchester United midfielder is set to miss all four of their Nations League group fixtures between September 26 and October 6: a double-header against Slovenia and one match each against Switzerland and North Macedonia.

For Napoli, it is a short-term absence. For Scotland, it rips a key figure out of the heart of Steve Clarke’s plans at the sharp end of their campaign.
