Richmond Park Stand Closure After Incident Involving Waterford Player
Part of the main stand at Richmond Park will be closed for two of St Patrick’s Athletic’s upcoming home fixtures after an incident in last Friday’s defeat to Waterford.
During St Pat’s 2-0 loss, Waterford’s Jorgen Voilas was allegedly struck by a spectator. That flashpoint has now triggered disciplinary action.
An independent Football Association of Ireland disciplinary committee has handed down a fine and ordered a one-match closure of Section G in the main stand. On top of that, the committee has activated a previously suspended one-match closure of the same section, meaning Section G is currently set to be shut for two games.
The club retains the right to appeal.
Bohemians Game Spared – For Now
The timing of the ruling means Saturday’s home clash with Bohemians will go ahead as normal, with Section G remaining open. With the fixture so close, the League of Ireland has ruled there is not enough time to put the operational changes in place.
Instead, the closure is scheduled to hit two high-profile league dates later in the season:
- Shamrock Rovers on 11 September
- Shelbourne on 16 October
In a statement, the League of Ireland confirmed the measures, outlining that “a player was struck by a spectator” during the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division game between St Patrick’s Athletic and Waterford at Richmond Park on Friday, 28 August 2026.
The statement detailed the fine, the one-match closure of Section G, and the activation of the previously suspended closure, before clarifying that the sanction will apply to St Pat’s next two home league fixtures after the Bohemians game.
The decision can still be challenged under FAI Disciplinary Regulations. Whether St Pat’s choose to fight it, with Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne on the horizon, is the next call to be made.
