Quinn Sullivan Called Up for U.S. Friendlies

Quinn Sullivan’s wait is over. The 16-year-old will be among the 26 players called in by Mauricio Pochettino for a four-game U.S. friendly slate running from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6, a rapid rise that mirrors his surge with Philadelphia Union.

This isn’t a token youth invitation. Sullivan has dragged a previously drifting Union side into a playoff spot, driving a post-World Cup resurgence that has seen Philadelphia go unbeaten in league play since the tournament. When the Union needed a spark, he supplied it.

His elevation to the senior setup feels like the next step in a path he has been walking for years. Sullivan has long been embedded in the U.S. Youth National Team structure, first pulling on the shirt at U-15 level and steadily climbing through the age groups. Coaches knew his name well before the wider public caught up.

Now comes the history angle. If Sullivan sees the field in any of those four friendlies, he will become the second-youngest player ever to appear for the U.S. men’s national team. Only Freddy Adu, who made his debut in January 2006, would have done it earlier.

The teenager has not hidden how badly he wanted this shot. Earlier this month, he openly admitted he was hungry for a U.S. opportunity.
