Pritchard Leads Penybont to Victory Over Colwyn Bay

Penybont’s unbeaten start to the Cymru Premier season survived a bruising night and a bruising opponent, as a single goal from substitute Owain Pritchard delivered a tight 1-0 win over Colwyn Bay and nudged them up to sixth.

It did not start like a routine home victory. Far from it. Inside the opening 20 minutes, Penybont’s plans were ripped up when summer signings Jonathan Leko and Ryan Hill were both forced off injured, leaving Rhys Griffiths to reshuffle before his side had even settled.

The disruption could easily have knocked the hosts off their stride. Instead, it lit a fire.

Pritchard, one of the early replacements, seized his moment. When Colwyn Bay keeper Mark Halstead misjudged a situation in his box, the Penybont man reacted quickest, snapping onto the loose ball and finishing from close range to give the home side the lead.

The goal lifted the ground and almost brought an immediate second. Veteran forward Chris Venables, still the man Penybont look to in big moments, found space and let fly, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar with Halstead beaten.

That near-miss kept Colwyn Bay alive, and they grew into the game after the break.

The visitors pushed higher, asked more questions, and began to test Penybont’s resolve. Young goalkeeper Daniel Higgs had to stand tall, first denying Callum Bratley and then Ethan Roberts as the pressure cranked up and the home side were forced deeper.

Colwyn Bay chased the equaliser right to the end, but Penybont refused to yield. They absorbed the late waves, protected Higgs, and saw out the win with the kind of grit that often matters more than fluency in early-season battles.

Injuries, a narrow lead, and a late onslaught – Penybont handled it all. The unbeaten run stays intact. The table climb continues. Now the question is how far this resilience can take them in the months ahead.
