Peter Closes ADO Training Sessions Amid Leak Concerns
Peter will walk out for ADO’s first Eredivisie home game in five years on Sunday, but he does so with a problem he never wanted: he no longer trusts what happens on the training pitch to stay there.
The head coach has ordered sessions to be closed after team information from a recent workout appeared online almost immediately. For him, that crossed a line.
“I don't know who it was, but in any case someone, or a few people, posted information online immediately,” he told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad. “That makes keeping training sessions open completely pointless for us.”
The frustration is obvious. ADO had tried to keep an open-door policy, to let supporters watch preparations up close. That goodwill has been undercut by a leak that, in Peter’s eyes, threatens tactical integrity ahead of a crucial campaign.
“I have no idea if this happened last year as well, but this time I knew it was posted online straight away,” he explained. “We want everyone to be able to come and watch training, but that information has to stay inside the complex. That didn't happen, so we have to close the doors.”
The decision lands just as the club is trying to re-establish itself at the top level. Matchday two of the 2026-27 Eredivisie season brings FC Groningen to a sold-out home crowd on Sunday afternoon, with ADO still hunting their first points after a sobering return to the division.
Their comeback began with a 2-0 defeat away to AZ, the game decided after the break as Ro-Zangelo Daal and Calvin Stengs struck in the second half. The scoreline underlined the gap ADO must close, but it did not dampen Peter’s appetite for the occasion now coming.
Putting the selection leak aside, he is already locked in on the football itself. He expects a proper contest, not a chess match.
“I don't expect any surprises and I'm hoping for an open game played at high intensity by both teams,” he said, eyeing a chance to reset in front of home support that has waited half a decade for this stage to return.

Team news offers a mixed picture. Jalen Hawkins remains sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Cameron Peupion is still a long-term absentee after knee surgery. Those absences strip some depth from the squad at a time when every option feels precious.
There is at least a lift between the posts. Goalkeeper Niclas Thiede is back in full training after an ankle injury and is in contention again, restoring experience to a key position. Cagliari loanee Othniel Raterink is also edging closer; he could make the bench as he builds match fitness, a potential late-game weapon rather than a starter for now.
The challenge could hardly be tougher for a home reintroduction. Groningen arrive brimming with confidence after edging past FC Utrecht in their opening fixture, a result that gave them early momentum and underlined their threat.
ADO, by contrast, stand at zero points, nursing the sting of that defeat to AZ and the irritation of a dressing-room secret that slipped into the public domain. The stands will be full, the noise guaranteed. The question is whether Peter’s side can match the intensity he demands and turn a week of closed doors into a statement in the open.
