Paul Pogba Set to Leave Monaco After New Injury Halts Comeback

Paul Pogba is on the brink of having his contract with Monaco terminated following a fresh injury to his left thigh. This setback could mark the end of his attempt to revive his career at the Ligue 1 club.

Contract Termination in Progress

Reports from L'Equipe reveal that after Pogba collapsed during a training session at St George's Park, Monaco decided to cut ties with the French midfielder. The injury happened during a small-sided game and brought intense pain, confirming a decision the club had considered weeks earlier.

Monaco had already informed Pogba that they planned to end his two-year contract early, allowing him to seek other opportunities. Negotiations over his severance are underway. It's said Pogba’s wages were under £44,000 per week.

A Troubled Return to Football

After a doping ban was shortened on appeal, Pogba made his comeback in March 2025, signing with Monaco after parting ways with Juventus. Unfortunately, his return has been marred by injuries and limited playing time. He featured only briefly during pre-season, clocking 45 minutes in a friendly against Saint-Priest on July 18.

Following that, a knee problem sidelined him for four matches before the recent thigh injury struck. Pogba had just rejoined full training last Friday, hoping to complete his recovery and re-establish himself on the pitch.

Club Officials Speak Out

Thiago Scuro, Monaco's general manager, addressed the situation in a press briefing, admitting the project with Pogba failed to meet expectations. He said, The truth is that the project did not work well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course.

Pogba himself had previously spoken about his relief in getting another chance to play, calling it a "second chance" after a dark period in his career. Sadly, this chance seems to be slipping away.

What Lies Ahead for Pogba?

Following an MRI scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to evaluate the thigh injury, Pogba’s future remains uncertain. Reports suggest he has been offered to clubs in Major League Soccer, but whether he pursues a new team or opts for retirement is still unknown.
