For a club that prides itself on its home, the accusation landed hard. Neymar painted a picture of a surface torn up by last-minute work, leaving craters where there should have been rhythm and speed.
He didn’t stop there.
"And to make matters worse, we had to make a greater effort because of its dreadful condition. No wonder 3 players were injured in the first half. Well done indeed... very poor work!"
Three injuries before the break, one of them their star forward. For Neymar, that was no coincidence. That was negligence.
Concern over his thigh
Amid the rage, there was a moment of concern.
"Unfortunately, I felt discomfort in my thigh. I will undergo tests, and I hope it is not serious. We will keep our morale up and focus on what is coming."
No diagnosis yet, only uncertainty. A tight schedule, a key player, and a muscle twinge that could mean days or weeks on the sidelines. Santos must now wait for scans to reveal how costly this night truly was.
Palmeiras fire back
If Neymar expected his words to echo unanswered, Palmeiras quickly proved him wrong.
The São Paulo club responded with a pointed, sarcastic statement of their own, turning the spotlight onto their Allianz Parque surface. They praised the condition of their pitch, underlining that it receives daily maintenance and, in their words, remains in perfect condition.
Their message carried a clear subtext: look at how it can be done.
Palmeiras went further, stressing that their players feel more secure thanks to that standard of care and highlighting a statistic designed to sting. According to the club, Palmeiras are the Brazilian top-flight side least affected by injuries over the past five years.
In other words: blame the grass if you want, but not ours.
