Manchester City Faces Challenge in UEFA Champions League Opener

Manchester City will launch their UEFA Champions League campaign in Porto without Jeremy Doku and Nico O’Reilly after both were ruled out of tomorrow night’s clash at the Estádio do Dragão.

O’Reilly’s issue is more recent. The young midfielder suffered a back injury in the warm-up before City’s 1-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday, cutting short his involvement before the game had even started. The problem has proved serious enough to keep him out of the trip to Portugal.

Any lingering doubt disappeared when City confirmed their travelling squad. Neither Doku nor O’Reilly made the list. Two names missing. Two roles to be filled.

Maresca must now juggle his options for a game that already carried weight. The Champions League starts tomorrow for City, and it starts without them.
