Khephren Thuram's Injury Concerns at Juventus

Khephren Thuram’s difficult start to life at Juventus has taken a worrying turn, with the midfielder left out of the squad for this evening’s Serie A clash against Parma and now facing a key decision over knee surgery.

The Frenchman has been battling patellofemoral syndrome since the end of last season, a knee problem that has never fully settled and has already disrupted his first weeks in Turin. He spent most of pre-season working away from the main group, managing the issue rather than pushing through it, and he sat out Juventus’ Serie A opener against Frosinone last week.

Decisive Step

Now comes the decisive step.

Thuram is expected to fly to France next week for a specialist consultation with Bertrand Sonnery Cottet, the knee expert who previously operated on Gleison Bremer (cruciate ligament and meniscus) and Federico Gatti (meniscus). The visit will determine whether the 23-year-old must undergo surgery, a scenario that would almost certainly delay his full integration into Luciano Spalletti’s side.

For now, there is no place for him in the squad to face Parma at the Allianz Stadium, and the club is bracing for the possibility of a longer absence.

Spalletti did not try to disguise his feelings when asked about Thuram’s condition in Friday’s press conference, admitting he was “very worried” about the midfielder’s fitness.

Juventus signed Thuram to be a driving force in their new-look midfield. Instead, just as the season begins to gather pace, they are waiting on a specialist’s verdict to discover how long they will have to do without him.
