Jim Goodwin Returns to Dundee United Dugout After Medical Absence

Jim Goodwin will return to the Dundee United dugout this weekend after a three-week medical absence that briefly halted his season on the touchline.

The 44-year-old manager was admitted to hospital at the end of August with an undisclosed condition, before being discharged and returning home on 1 September. He has since been recovering away from day-to-day duties, watching on as his staff steered the team through a key early spell in the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Goodwin is now set to resume full responsibilities at Tannadice, starting with pre-match media duties on Friday ahead of United’s meeting with St Mirren on Saturday.

He has already had one glimpse of his side from a distance. Earlier this month, the Irishman took in United’s draw with Falkirk from the stands, leaving assistant Lee Sharp to lead the team from the technical area.

Sharp has handled three Premiership fixtures in Goodwin’s absence, returning a perfectly balanced run: one win, one defeat, one draw. Respectable damage limitation. Now the reins pass back to the manager who built the plan.

With St Mirren next on the schedule and Goodwin back on the touchline, Dundee United’s season starts to feel whole again.
