Jaissle Provides Positive Update on Newcastle Injuries and Signings

Newcastle United may have fallen 3-1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season defeat with something far more valuable than a result: good news on three key players.

Fabian Schär, out since January, is closing in on a return. The experienced defender has been sorely missed, yet his manager now expects to see him back with the group very shortly.

"He's on the way back now," Jaissle said after the game. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."

For a squad that leaned heavily on its defensive core last season, that timeline matters. Schär stepping back into full sessions would hand Jaissle a major piece of his back line just as preparations sharpen for the new campaign.

He is not the only one edging closer.

Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are also moving through their rehabilitation programmes, and Jaissle sees them on a similar path to Schär.

"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," he explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."

Three players, one message: reinforcements from within are on the horizon.

And there could be more help coming from outside the club as well. Jaissle made it clear that Newcastle are still active in the market and working to strengthen before the window shuts.

"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."

Injury returns, training reintegrations, and the promise of fresh faces. With the season creeping closer, Newcastle’s summer is starting to take shape.
