Inter's Dominance Over Cagliari: A Clash of Champions
Inter travel to the Unipol Domus on Sunday night carrying two things Cagliari know all too well: momentum and history. The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in their last 13 Serie A meetings with the Sardinian side, and Cagliari haven’t managed a clean sheet in any of their last 20 clashes against them.

Pisacane is likely to build a compact, disciplined block, asking his midfield to screen and scrap. Inter, with Barella returning to his home island, will look to dictate from the first whistle. Their patterns, their rotations, their tempo – all geared towards pinning Cagliari back.
Inter’s fast starts – and the half-time/full-time angle
Inter needed only six minutes to open the scoring against Monza, Diouf sliding a pass into Çalhanoğlu, who lashed a right-footed shot into the roof of the net. That early punch fits a clear pattern.
The Nerazzurri have scored first in each of their last nine Serie A meetings with Cagliari. They’ve also gone into the break ahead in six of the last eight. When Inter set the tone, they tend to keep it.
There is one recent wrinkle. The last time these two met, at San Siro, Inter ran out 3-0 winners, but it was goalless at half-time before Marcus Thuram, Barella and Zielinski settled it after the interval. Pisacane’s instinct will be to drag the game into that kind of territory again: low-risk, low-tempo, survive the opening storm.

Clean-sheet machine in Sardinia
The numbers in Sardinia are brutal for the hosts. Inter have won their last three away league games at Cagliari without conceding a goal.
In August 2023, Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martínez delivered a 2-0 victory. In December 2024, Inter cruised to a 3-0 win. Last September brought another 2-0 success, with Lautaro and Pio Esposito on the scoresheet. Different scorers, same story: Inter in control, Cagliari shut out.

Against Monza, the 21-year-old scored with a deft backheel from Diouf’s cross, the kind of instinctive finish that belongs to a forward brimming with confidence. It was a continuation, not a beginning.
He has already scored at the Unipol Domus. Last season, he arrived at the near post to turn in a low cross from Federico Dimarco, claiming his first ever Serie A goal in this very stadium. Players remember those places. Strikers especially.
Chivu trusted him from the start alongside Lautaro at San Siro, leaving Thuram and Bonny on the bench. That selection said plenty about where Esposito stands in the pecking order – and where he could be heading. With expected minutes high and form trending upwards, backing him to score again feels logical, not romantic.
