Harry Wilson's Injury Threatens Wales' Nations League Comeback
Wales’ comeback to League A of the Nations League is already carrying a cloud. Harry Wilson, one of their most seasoned attacking voices, is now a major doubt for the September and October fixtures against Portugal, Denmark and Norway.
Named in Craig Bellamy’s squad and expected to play a central role, the Leeds United forward has instead been forced onto the treatment table with a quadriceps injury.
The setback was confirmed by his club manager Daniel Farke on Friday, who revealed the 29-year-old will miss Leeds’ Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
“Harry Wilson is out of this game, a quad injury, he reported some problems after the last game and also during this training week,” Farke said of the 69-cap international, who has scored 17 times for his country.
The concern stretches well beyond the weekend.
“He will also probably miss the Welsh games, so definitely not good news for him and also not for the Welsh team,” Farke added, underlining the blow for both player and country.
For Bellamy, preparing to lead Wales back into Europe’s top tier, the prospect of starting that journey without one of his most experienced attacking options is an early and unwelcome test.
