Erling Haaland has been cleared to start for Manchester City in the Community Shield showdown with Arsenal, easing any late anxiety in the champions’ camp.
The striker briefly alarmed supporters when he sat out the final stages of Thursday’s open training session, but Enzo Maresca moved quickly to shut down talk of a problem.
“He was ok, he had just a small thing behind ears, but he was ok,” the City manager said on Friday, making it clear his leading scorer is available for Cardiff.
Haaland fit, but will he start?
Haaland punished Arsenal last season, scoring twice in three meetings, and his presence alone changes the temperature of this fixture. The twist this time is his preparation.

So Haaland is fit. Marmoush is flying. The midfield is being rebuilt on the fly, and the back line is sharpening its edges. For a curtain-raiser, this already feels like more than a friendly.
