Declan Rice: Arsenal’s Iron Man Ready for Another Season
Declan Rice refuses to slow down.
In an era when managers, unions and medical staff warn about burnout, Arsenal’s midfield general is leaning into the chaos. Another 60-game season? He’s ready for it.
Arsenal’s iron man
Last season, Arsenal went the distance. A full 38-game Premier League campaign, a run to the Champions League final, and a Carabao Cup final appearance left Mikel Arteta’s side logging more than 60 matches across all competitions.
That kind of schedule usually exposes weaknesses. Squads creak, rotations become risky, and even the fittest players start to feel the strain. Yet some names stay inked on the teamsheet. Declan Rice is one of them.
Since arriving at Arsenal, Rice has become non-negotiable. When the fixtures pile up, he doesn’t disappear; he digs in. At times he has even played through pain, taking injections just to make sure he’s on the pitch for the biggest nights. Availability has become part of his armoury, as important as his ball-winning and his passing.
And it doesn’t stop at club level. Rice is a regular for England, stacking international duty on top of an already brutal calendar. Summer tournaments, qualifiers, friendlies — the matches keep coming, and he keeps turning up.
“I’ve shown that I can do it”
For Rice, this isn’t a new test. It’s the norm.
Speaking via Hayters, the midfielder pointed out that his workload has been heavy for years, stretching back to his days at West Ham when they were also fighting on multiple fronts in Europe.
“For the last six seasons, even since my West Ham days when it was in Europe, I've played 60-plus every season.
“So I think it is sustainable because I've shown that I can do it. It's just about maintaining it, maintaining the level and the consistency of the performances.
“For me, that's the main thing, showing up every week, giving a good account of myself and helping the team win. I've been lucky enough to be able to do that. So I'm really hungry to be able to do that again this season.”
That’s the standard he’s set for himself: not just to appear, but to dominate, week after week.
Hunger for another relentless season
The modern calendar is unforgiving. Clubs chase trophies on multiple fronts, broadcasters stretch kick-off times, and recovery windows shrink. Most conversations around elite players now circle back to one issue: how long can they keep this up?
Rice isn’t ducking that question. He’s answering it with his boots.
Arsenal will need him again. Another packed season looms, with expectations higher, margins finer and every competition demanding full commitment. Squad depth will matter, rotations will matter — but so will the presence of players who can anchor a campaign.
Rice has already shown he can carry that load. The real intrigue now is whether his body and his form can keep matching his ambition, as Arsenal push once more for the biggest prizes.
