David Alaba Poised for Unexpected Serie A Move with Udinese Agreement
Veteran defender David Alaba, formerly of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, is close to joining Italian Serie A club Udinese. The Austrian, 34, has reached a verbal deal with the team after becoming a free agent when his contract with Real Madrid ended last season.
New Chapter in Italy
Alaba’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expired in June, freeing him to negotiate with clubs across Europe. This move to Udinese will surprise some but offers the defender a fresh challenge in Italian football. His versatility and elite experience promise to strengthen Udinese's defensive line immediately.
Deal Progress Reported by Romano
Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the news on X, stating that the verbal agreement between Alaba and Udinese is set to be finalized soon. Both sides are working through the formalities and administrative steps before signing the official contract.
Elite Experience Added to Udinese
Alaba brings a wealth of success, including four Champions League titles and ten Bundesliga championships. During his tenure with Real Madrid, he made 132 appearances, scoring five goals and assisting nine times, though last season he played only 16 matches before leaving.
- Champions League Titles: 4
- Bundesliga Championships: 10
- Real Madrid Appearances: 132
- Goals for Real Madrid: 5
- Assists for Real Madrid: 9
- Last Season Appearances: 16
Reports earlier this summer suggested Alaba had been offered to major Italian clubs like Inter, Milan, and Juventus, but it was Udinese that moved decisively to secure his signature.
Immediate Availability for Udinese
Since Alaba is a free agent, he is not bound by transfer window restrictions, allowing him to join and be registered with Udinese straight away. Fans await official confirmation eagerly as he prepares to don the black and white jersey and start his journey in Serie A.
