Daniel Maldini Involved in Car Crash After Match-Winning Performance

Daniel Maldini walked off the pitch in Bergamo on Saturday night as Cagliari’s match-winner. By dawn on Sunday, he was at the centre of a car crash on the streets of Milan.

The 22-year-old forward, fresh from scoring the decisive penalty in Cagliari’s victory over Atalanta on September 12, was involved in a collision at around 5:15 a.m. at the junction of Via Tolentino and Via Francesco Caracciolo, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.

What began as an impact between two cars quickly turned into a three-vehicle incident. After the initial collision, one of the cars slammed into a parked Mercedes SUV in a residents’ bay, adding to the chaos of the early-morning scene.

Emergency services moved fast. Three ambulances and a medical car arrived to treat those involved. Six people suffered minor injuries, with five taken to hospital for further checks. Maldini was transported to Fatebenefratelli Hospital as a precaution.

His stay was brief.

“After a brief checkup with a code blue at the emergency room, Daniel was immediately released and returned home. He is in good health,” his lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, said. “Daniel is fine and has not suffered any injuries, let alone serious ones.”

With the physical scare quickly ruled out, attention turned to how the accident unfolded. Investigators are still piecing together the exact sequence, but early findings point to a failure to yield.

Initial reports suggest a vehicle travelling along Via Caracciolo collided with Maldini’s car as it came out from Piazza Caneva. The impact was described as front-left on Maldini’s vehicle against front-right on the oncoming car, consistent with a right-of-way not being granted. The force of that first collision then sent the other car into the stationary Mercedes SUV.

Local authorities continue to work through the details, reconstructing the crash to determine responsibilities and confirm the dynamics of the impact.

For Maldini, the outcome could have been far worse. Instead, he escaped with a fright, a hospital check, and the backing of his legal team.

With the incident behind him and no injuries to manage, the forward is expected to rejoin Cagliari’s preparations in the coming days. The club will bring him back into training as they build towards their next Serie A fixtures, hoping that the only drama involving Daniel Maldini from here on comes inside the penalty area, not at a Milan crossroads before sunrise.
