Cuca Evaluates Neymar's Risk Amid Synthetic Pitch Concerns

Santos boss Cuca has made it clear: the final word on Neymar’s involvement will not belong to the forward alone.

The coach, wary of pushing his talisman too far on a surface the player openly despises, underlined that any decision will be collective. Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Cuca laid out the process.

"I will talk to him and we will make our decisions. With him and the entire squad. We'll determine what is best to do," he said, framing Neymar’s status as a technical and medical call, not a marketing one.

The dilemma is simple. The stage could be Allianz Parque. The floor is artificial. And Neymar wants no part of it.

His frustration with synthetic turf is no secret. After aggravating an ankle problem against Atletico Mineiro last year, he unleashed his anger on social media, writing: "It's proven, synthetic is absolute s***."

That line still hangs over every discussion about him stepping onto an artificial pitch.

Pressed in the mixed zone about the prospect of playing at Palmeiras’ home, Neymar bristled at the idea of looking that far ahead.

"Man, are you already thinking about that? Calm down, there's a game on Sunday," he snapped, before leaving his availability wide open. "I don't know [if I'll play on synthetic turf]."

The message, though, matches everything he has said before about Allianz Parque.

"Playing at Allianz, for me, is impossible," he has admitted. "Playing on a 7-a-side surface is something that bothers any player, regardless of injuries. Morumbi is very good, and I feel better there. I feel good on that pitch."

Between a coach preaching caution, a star player railing against the surface, and a key fixture looming, Santos now stand at a crossroads: protect their biggest asset, or send him into a stadium he calls “impossible” and live with the consequences.
