Zverev Wins Laver Cup for Team Europe with Straight-Set Victory

Team Europe sealed their triumph at the 2026 Laver Cup on Day 3 with a straight-sets victory from Alexander Zverev. With the score at 7-5 in favor of Europe, the team needed just two wins from four matches to claim the title.

The doubles pairing of Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik started the day strong, defeating Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, setting the stage for Zverev’s decisive match. A win from him would secure the trophy before teammates Carlos Alcaraz or Rafael Jodar had to step onto the court during the evening session in London.

Zverev Holds His Nerve Against Tough Opponent

Learner Tien proved to be a challenging opponent, showing resilience after his Day 1 victory over Cobolli. He pushed Zverev into extended rallies and displayed sharp shotmaking skills, testing the European star’s focus.

Zverev managed to edge out the first set in a tiebreak, winning 7-6. In the second set, he secured the only service break and maintained his lead to close it out 6-3, clinching the Laver Cup for Team Europe.

Zverev has been the deciding player for Team Europe in four of his seven appearances. With two Grand Slam titles this year—the French Open and US Open—and the ATP World No. 1 ranking within reach, he continues to impress in what many see as a Hall of Fame season.

Standout Performances and Tournament Highlights

Jakub Mensik caught attention with his strong doubles performances on Days 1 and 3, using a powerful serve and delivering clutch shots. He also holds the 2026 US Open mixed doubles title alongside Karolina Muchova, who was part of Czechia's victorious team in the 2026 WTA Billie Jean King Cup.

The Laver Cup remains a unique event, blending rivals into teammates and providing memorable moments. The atmosphere was electric as Team Europe celebrated their win with singing and dancing.

The event draws a high-profile crowd including legends like Roger Federer and Rod Laver, plus celebrities such as Andy Murray, John McEnroe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Anna Wintour.
