Zamalek Confirms Ahmed Fattouh's Stay Amid Saudi Transfer Rumors
Ahmed Fattouh’s name has slipped into the transfer gossip columns again, this time tied to a move to the Saudi Pro League. Inside Zamalek, the answer is short and sharp: he’s not going anywhere.
Media pundit Ahmed Shobier moved to kill the story at source, pouring cold water on reports from Saudi outlets that Al-Fateh are circling the left-back after his standout displays with Egypt at the recent World Cup.
On his radio programme, Shobier was clear. The Al-Fateh links? “Journalistic speculation.” Zamalek’s stance? Firm. The club, he insisted, have no intention of cashing in on one of their most reliable performers.
Shobier acknowledged why Fattouh’s name is out there. The defender delivered a “wonderful performance” on the world stage and has long been regarded as one of Egypt’s most polished full-backs. Perform like that in a World Cup and scouts start taking notes. Stories follow.
But interest and reality are two different things.
Inside the squad, Zamalek are not short of bodies on the left. Mahmoud Bentayeg is in the frame. Echo has renewed his contract and remains an option. Ahmed Khodary, who stepped in last season and impressed, is pushing as well. On paper, the depth is there.
Yet Fattouh’s importance goes beyond a simple depth chart.
Head coach Moatamed Gamal has leaned heavily on his versatility in recent months, using him in more than one role and trusting him in different systems. That tactical flexibility only grew in value after his performances with the national team, where he showed he can handle the pressure and tempo at the very top level.
Shobier underlined that point. Fattouh’s World Cup form, he argued, didn’t put him in the shop window for Zamalek. It strengthened his hand within it, increasing his “technical value” to the coaching staff rather than nudging him towards the exit.
The message from the pundit was emphatic. Everything being circulated about a potential move, he said, is nothing more than talk. He went as far as to say he is “one million per cent” sure it is impossible for Zamalek to let Fattouh go, calling the matter settled.
While the rumours spin outside, Zamalek’s focus is locked on the pitch. The team continue their pre-season camp, sharpening up through a run of friendlies and fine-tuning Gamal’s ideas before the league curtain-raiser.
