Yan Diomande's Viral Moment at Real Madrid
Yan Diomande has been at Real Madrid for only a matter of days, but he has already delivered the first viral moment of the club’s pre-season.
During Tuesday’s training session, the Ivorian midfielder – signed from Leipzig for a staggering 125 million euros, the most expensive transfer in the club’s history – left new team‑mate Marc Cucurella flat-footed in a sequence that lasted barely five seconds but said plenty about what Madrid have bought.
Spanish newspaper AS captured the clip and posted it on its official X account. In it, Diomande receives the ball, shimmies past Cucurella with a sharp change of direction, glides into space and lashes a superb finish into the net. One touch to set, one to humiliate, one to finish. Training ground or not, it was the kind of action that makes a dressing room look up.
Cucurella, a World Cup winner with Spain in 2026 and another of this window’s high-profile arrivals after his move from Chelsea, could only watch Diomande wheel away in celebration as team-mates roared in the background. On a pitch full of stars, the new man briefly owned the stage.
Both Diomande and Cucurella, though, will have to wait to show that swagger in front of a crowd. Neither will feature in Real Madrid’s friendly against Deportivo La Coruña on Wednesday, with the pair still short of full match fitness as the coaching staff manage their integration carefully.
The anticipation will only build. Real Madrid open their league campaign on Saturday 22 August against Espanyol, and if this week’s training cameo is any indication, the Bernabéu may soon have a new favourite to rise for when he picks up the ball and starts to dance.
