West Ham Urges Fans to Stop Offensive Chant Against Manor Solomon

West Ham have called on their own supporters to cut out an “offensive and divisive” chant aimed at new signing Manor Solomon, after it was heard during their Championship opener at Burnley.

The club said a section of the away end at Turf Moor sang a song containing an “anti-Palestine message” during last Sunday’s 2-2 draw, and moved quickly this week to distance themselves from it.

Club issues firm reminder before home opener

With their first home game of the season against Charlton looming, West Ham released a strong statement reminding fans of their responsibilities in the stands and around the club.

They stressed that “each and every supporter is an ambassador for West Ham United” and underlined that every fan, “regardless of their background”, must be able to watch their team “without fear, discrimination or abuse”.

The club reiterated its commitment to making sure everyone inside the ground “feels safe, respected and included”.

West Ham acknowledged that chanting is a core part of matchdays, and actively encouraged fans to get behind “their football club and the players wearing the claret and blue shirt” – but drew a clear line at songs that “create division or cause offence among fellow fans”.

Spotlight on Solomon

The incident has put an early focus on Solomon, the Israel international winger who joined from Tottenham this summer after previous loan spells at Fulham and Leeds.

Capped 49 times by his country, the 27-year-old built his reputation at Shakhtar Donetsk, winning three league titles in Ukraine before moving to England and later helping Leeds secure the Championship crown in 2024-25.

Now he finds himself at the heart of a different kind of story, as West Ham try to ensure the noise around him is about his football – not the politics dragged into the terraces.
