Vinicius Jr Confident Real Madrid Will Clinch 16th Champions League Title, Highlights Key Threat from Inter
Vinicius Jr has boldly declared that Real Madrid will capture their 16th Champions League trophy this season. Despite setbacks in recent tournaments, the Brazilian forward is certain the prestigious prize will return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Setting Sights on the 16th European Crown
Vinicius issued a strong statement ahead of the new European campaign, predicting his team will reclaim continental glory. Although the club last lifted the trophy in 2024, recent years have seen them eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
In an interview with the club's official media, Vinicius expressed unwavering belief in his squad’s ability to reach the top once more. "Hopefully the 16th will come. We’re ready for that. It’s our competition," he said. "We haven’t done well in it for the last two years. Our first objective is to finish among the top eight. We’re always excited about the Champions League. This season will be different from the last two campaigns and we’re going to win it."
Tactical Challenge Against Inter Awaits
The Champions League journey begins with a tough match on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu against Italian champions Inter Milan. Vinicius has a perfect record against Inter in the competition, winning all four previous encounters and providing one assist.
He acknowledged the challenge posed by Inter’s style, especially their defensive setup. "Inter are a very physically strong team. They defend with five at the back, which usually causes us difficulties, but the manager has prepared us for it," Vinicius explained. He also noted some squad absences but insisted the team will fight hard and aim to build a strong connection with the fans during such matches.
Recovering from Domestic Setback
Madrid enter this European clash after suffering their first league defeat of the season against Real Betis. Despite the loss, Vinicius remains positive about the team’s overall form. The 26-year-old has contributed one goal and two assists in four appearances so far.
"We’re starting the season off brilliantly, despite our last loss. We played well, created plenty of chances, and that’s what matters most. We need to stay focused on leading Real Madrid to the top, as we always want," he added.
Building a Legacy at the Bernabeu
Beyond the immediate focus, Vinicius reflected on his growing place in Real Madrid history. Having scored in two Champions League finals — against Liverpool in 2022 and Borussia Dortmund in 2024 — the winger treasures those moments deeply.
"They’re the two most important goals of my life. They’re something that will remain in history. Many players score goals, but very few score in finals. To do it at the biggest club in the world is something neither the fans nor I will ever forget. It was a dream. I never imagined I’d score all these goals or play here for all these years. At 26 years old, to be one of the leaders of the world’s most important club means so much to me and my family."
