Tottenham are edging towards the deal that would define their summer: Savinho, the £60 million Brazilian winger owned by Manchester City and long identified as Roberto De Zerbi’s primary attacking target.
This is not a late whim. Savinho has sat at the top of the Spurs shortlist for months, the player De Zerbi views as the cutting edge of his new-look forward line. City hold the key
For now, the move sits in a holding pattern at Manchester City’s end of the runway.
City have been cautious, reluctant to sign off on the deal until they secure what they regard as a suitable replacement for the outgoing winger. Their stance has slowed the process, leaving Spurs ready and willing but ultimately dependent on the champions completing their own piece of business.
The mood around the negotiation, though, is optimistic. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has repeatedly underlined Savinho’s position in the Spurs hierarchy of targets and the confidence that a breakthrough will come.
“The priority, the number one, two, and three target remains Savinho,” Romano said, outlining just how central the Brazilian is to Tottenham’s plans. He added that by the end of the summer window, Savinho has “very, very good chances” to join the club, and that he does not expect any late twists.

If Tottenham finally get the green light from City and close the £60m deal, it will be more than another exciting signing. It will be a statement, a declaration that this is not a gentle evolution but a bold reset under De Zerbi.
Savinho’s arrival would complete a window that has already reshaped the spine of the squad. It would also turn up the temperature around the manager. With spending on this scale, patience tends to shrink, and expectations rise fast.
