2027 Spanish Super Cup Set for Istanbul: Venues, Dates, and RFEF Details

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially confirmed that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be hosted in Istanbul. The event will take place from 2 to 6 February, featuring four top teams: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad. This decision follows a formal agreement signed by RFEF president Rafael Louzan in Istanbul, marking a significant shift for the tournament.

Turkish Stadiums to Host Matches

The competition will unfold across three major Istanbul stadiums, with a total seating capacity of around 150,000 spectators. The first semi-final on 2 February pits Barcelona against Atletico Madrid at Fenerbahce's Chobani Stadium, which holds 48,000 fans. On 3 February, Real Sociedad face Real Madrid at Besiktas Tupras Stadium, accommodating 42,590 attendees. The final is scheduled for 6 February at Galatasaray's Ali Sami Yen Stadium, with a capacity of 52,000.

Reasons Behind the Venue Change

Istanbul steps in as host after Saudi Arabia was unable to hold the event due to a scheduling conflict with the Asian Cup. This adjustment keeps the tournament on track while offering a fresh location for the prestigious competition.

RFEF President Highlights Sportsmanship and Cultural Connection

"Today we are presenting much more than an agreement to organise a competition. It is rather the relationship between two countries that live football with extraordinary passion. Football has that virtue and responsibility: it unites countries and brings cultures closer," said Rafael Louzan during his speech at the Turkish Football Federation headquarters.

Financial Impact and Expectations

The move to Turkey preserves the profitable setup introduced recently by the RFEF. The last edition in Saudi Arabia generated €51 million, funds shared among the participating clubs and grassroots Spanish football. Organisers hope Turkish fans will warmly welcome the four-team format and create an exciting atmosphere for this early-season trophy battle.
