Sevilla Targets Ellyes Skhiri as Frankfurt Midfield Numbers Shrink

Sevilla’s late-summer rebuild is starting to take shape, and Ellyes Skhiri has quietly moved onto their radar.

With the window entering its decisive stretch, the Andalusian club are working on several deals at once, trying to patch more than one hole before the new La Liga season kicks off. The headline objective is clear: an out‑and‑out striker. Negotiations continue for Ruben Vargas, who remains the main attacking target, while other options stay in the background as insurance.

But the story is not just about goals. It is also about balance.

From Germany, reports now link Sevilla with Tunisia international Skhiri, who suddenly looks available. Eintracht Frankfurt are searching for an exit route for the midfielder before his contract runs down at the end of next season. The Bundesliga side have already moved to reinforce the centre of the pitch with Rafael Onyedika, and, according to Sky Sport Germany, Skhiri has effectively been frozen out as they trim the squad.

That situation has alerted Sevilla.

Club planners are already in talks to bring in Giorgi Kochorashvili for midfield, and Skhiri is being viewed as a complementary piece rather than the headline act. A functional, hard‑running option who could round out the department, protect the back line and give the coach tactical flexibility across a long season.

Skhiri’s pedigree is no mystery. He featured for Tunisia at the last World Cup, starting all three group-stage matches and showcasing the same work rate and positional discipline that made him a mainstay in Germany. For a Sevilla side that has lacked stability between the lines in recent campaigns, that profile has obvious appeal.

Time, though, is not on their side.

The Spanish league season is almost upon them, and the urgency to land a striker only grows by the day. Sevilla open their campaign in eight days at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where they will host Rayo Vallecano. Those are the precious days coach Garcia Plaza has to integrate any late arrivals, drill combinations and decide who is ready to start when the real points are on the line.

Before that, there is one last dress rehearsal. Sevilla face Bayer Leverkusen in Germany tomorrow at 3:30pm, their final friendly of the summer, before flying back to Seville to lock in the squad.

By then, the picture around Skhiri – and the rest of their transfer jigsaw – may look very different.
