Serhou Guirassy Celebrates 100 Matches with Dortmund

Serhou Guirassy walked off the pitch to a roar he’s already heard a hundred times in Dortmund colours – without realising this one marked a milestone.

"I'm very, very happy to have played 100 matches for Dortmund. I didn't even know that," said the 30-year-old striker, who arrived from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2024. The number is more than a round figure. It tells a story of durability and a striker who simply does not stop scoring.

Against Villarreal CF, in a wild 3-2 home win, Guirassy buried goals number 63 and 64 for BVB. That haul in just over two years puts him in rare company. Only one man sits clearly ahead of him in Dortmund’s modern scoring pantheon: Erling Haaland, with a staggering 86 goals in 89 competitive games for the Black and Yellows. Go back further and the comparison lands on Lothar Emmerich, who also struck 64 times in his first 100 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

Guirassy has now joined that company. Quickly.

Climbing the Champions League ladder

The numbers in Europe tell an equally sharp story. On this same night, Guirassy moved past Robert Lewandowski in Dortmund’s internal Champions League scoring charts. The Pole registered 17 goals in 28 matches for BVB in the competition. Guirassy needed only 25 games to move beyond him.

His brace against Villarreal lifted him to 19 Champions League goals for the club. Only Marco Reus, the long-time heartbeat of Dortmund, remains in front. Reus finished with 24 goals in 72 Champions League outings for BVB – a mark now firmly in Guirassy’s sights.

"Of course, it's something very special to break Lewandowski's record, because he is a great striker," Guirassy told Prime, the significance of the moment not lost on him.

The match that carried all these milestones was anything but routine. "It was a strange match tonight," Guirassy admitted after the 3-2 win. "A crazy game. We could have done better, but we're happy with the win."

Strange game or not, the pattern is becoming familiar. Dortmund find a way. Guirassy finds the net. And with Haaland’s numbers the only ones left clearly out in front, the question now is simple: how far can this run take him – and BVB – in Europe’s biggest nights to come?
