Roony Bardghji Injured: Barcelona's Plans for New Season Disrupted
Barcelona’s plans for the new season have been hit hard by the news they feared most. Roony Bardghji has torn his ACL.
The Swedish winger picked up the knee injury in training on Monday, and early concern inside the club has now been confirmed. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bardghji faces surgery and a spell on the sidelines of around six to seven months, with Barcelona expected to make the diagnosis official shortly.
For a player, that timescale feels like an eternity. For Bardghji, it is a nightmare he already knows too well.
Two years ago, during his time at Copenhagen, he suffered the same injury. That first ACL tear kept him out for 10 months and stalled the rapid rise of one of Europe’s most talked-about young wide players. Just as he was beginning to gather momentum again in Barcelona colours, the same ligament has gone.
The timing could hardly be worse. Bardghji was in advanced talks to leave Barça on loan, a move designed to give him the regular minutes that are so hard to guarantee at a club of this size. The plan was clear: a season of real responsibility elsewhere, then a genuine shot at a long-term role back at Camp Nou.
That roadmap has been ripped up in one training session.
For Barcelona, it is a sporting setback. For Bardghji, it is something deeper. A second major knee injury before his career has really begun raises all the old questions about recovery, rhythm, and how long it takes to trust your body again.
The club will now switch from planning his loan to planning his rehabilitation. The next few months will be about surgeons, schedules and slow, lonely work in the gym instead of crowded stadiums and the chance to prove himself at the highest level.
Bardghji has already climbed this mountain once. The challenge now is whether he can do it again, and come back in time to reclaim the future that seemed to be opening in front of him.
