Real Madrid Targets Yan Diomande with €100 Million Offer
The summer had been about the usual heavyweight names – Michael Olise, Alessandro Bastoni, Rodrigo Hernández. Then Real Madrid reached for a different file. Yan Diomande. Nineteen years old, Ivorian, a winger with a season and a World Cup behind him, and suddenly the centre of a three-way tug-of-war at the very top of the game.
Madrid have already moved from admiration to action. According to Bild, Los Blancos have opened talks with RB Leipzig with an initial offer of €100 million ($113 million). For Leipzig, that figure doesn’t come close. They value Diomande at around €130 million ($148 million). The gap is clear, but not chasmic. Those involved believe the finish line probably lies somewhere near €120 million ($137 million), a number that would place a teenager with just one Bundesliga season among the most expensive wide players in history.
Liverpool, PSG and a deal put on ice
Madrid are not alone circling Leipzig’s new star. Liverpool have already felt the same resistance: a €100 million bid from Anfield was also knocked back. Paris Saint-Germain remain firmly in the race and, until very recently, looked to be in pole position.
Diomande himself had previously pointed to the reigning European champions as his preferred destination, and for months that meant PSG. The French club had even moved far enough along the road to secure a preliminary five-year agreement with the player.
Then Madrid arrived.
Their entrance has reshuffled the deck in familiar fashion, just as it did last year with Franco Mastantuono, who at one stage seemed destined for the Parc des Princes before the European champions changed the script. This time, the impact has been immediate: as Diario AS has learned, Diomande has put that provisional five-year understanding with PSG on hold while Madrid press ahead with Leipzig.
The Roc Nation connection
There is another thread tying Diomande to the Bernabéu. The winger is represented by Roc Nation Sports, the U.S.-based agency founded by Jay-Z. It is the same firm that looks after Vinícius Júnior and is currently involved in negotiations over the Brazilian’s contract extension with Madrid, with his existing deal due to expire next summer.
The overlap is not decisive on its own, but it matters. Relationships, familiarity, lines of communication already open – all of it helps when numbers climb into nine figures and every detail can tilt a transfer one way or the other.
Leipzig stand firm – for now
Publicly, Leipzig refuse to blink. The Red Bull-owned club insist they plan around Diomande as a key part of next season’s squad, even as Europe’s elite push harder by the week.
Sporting director Marcel Schäfer was categorical on Wednesday. “Our intention is for Yan Diomande to play for Leipzig next season,” he said. The club are also working on extending his contract beyond 2030, a move designed to protect both their sporting project and their bargaining power.
The reality, though, is brutal. Keeping hold of a 19-year-old who has just delivered a debut Bundesliga season of 15 goals and 11 assists, and then shone on the World Cup stage, becomes increasingly difficult when Madrid, Liverpool and PSG line up with bids around the €100 million mark.
From Leganés cameo to European goldmine
Just a year ago, Diomande was signing his first major contract and generating a €20 million ($23 million) fee for Leganés, despite having only 10 LaLiga appearances. He left Butarque as a promising winger. He has returned, in financial terms at least, as a jackpot.
His first season in Germany has been explosive. Fifteen goals, 11 assists, a constant menace cutting in from either flank, and a work rate that matches the highlight reels. He then carried that form into the summer, helping Ivory Coast reach the round of 32 at the World Cup and producing several standout displays, including a goal-scoring performance against Ecuador that underlined his growing reputation on the biggest stage.
This is why the numbers now feel almost inevitable. Youth, pace, relentless pressing, one-on-one ability, the capacity to play on both wings – the modern winger’s checklist, ticked off in bold.
Leganés wait for the cash to fall
Back in Madrid’s southern suburbs, Leganés are watching every development with intense interest. When they sold Diomande to Leipzig, they retained 10% of the profit on any future sale. With negotiations already edging towards the €100 million bracket and beyond, that clause is starting to look like one of the smartest pieces of business in the club’s history.
A fee close to €100 million would hand Leganés another significant injection into their coffers. Added to the €20 million they banked last summer, the total could climb to around €30 million ($34 million) for a player who barely reached double figures in top-flight appearances for them.
From a brief LaLiga cameo to a windfall that could reshape an entire club’s medium-term future – all hinging on where a 19-year-old winger chooses to play his football next.
Madrid have made their move. Liverpool have already tested Leipzig’s resolve. PSG are still in the room, their preliminary agreement suddenly frozen. Somewhere between €100 million and €130 million, Yan Diomande’s next step will be decided – and with it, another fault line in Europe’s transfer market.
