Rangers Seen as Bigger Club Than Tottenham, But Mikey Moore Return to Ibrox Seems Unlikely
Colin Hendry told GOAL that Rangers rank as a bigger club than Tottenham Hotspur, yet the Old Firm side are facing obstacles in bringing back Mikey Moore for a second stint at Ibrox. The young talent impressed during his loan spell in Glasgow last season, but it looks like Spurs plan to send him elsewhere before the summer transfer window closes in 2026.
Moore’s Impact and Background
Moore joined the Gers just before turning 18, arriving in Scotland after becoming Tottenham's youngest Premier League player at 16 years and 277 days old. He has long been regarded as one of north London’s brightest prospects, but Spurs’ recent poor finishes—twice ending 17th—have limited his chances for consistent first-team football.
In the 2025-26 season, Rangers gave Moore regular game time, with 47 appearances and seven goals that helped showcase his potential on a big stage. While speculation about a return to Ibrox has surfaced, especially with Derek McInnes now managing Rangers, no agreement has been reached yet. Rangers could use some creativity after failing to win in their opening three games of the new season.
Hendry’s Take on the Situation
"Mikey Moore would be a welcome addition. At 19, he’s gone to a different country and a bigger club—bigger club Rangers than Tottenham," Hendry said, acknowledging this might be controversial in England. "Historically and in other respects, Rangers hold more weight. Tottenham aren’t guaranteed a top six spot; last season they barely avoided relegation."
He added that Moore’s position at Tottenham is uncertain, and while Rangers would be happy to get him back, the move is doubtful.
Potential Move to Bundesliga
There are talks about Moore possibly heading to Germany, with a move to Cologne under discussion. Hendry thinks this makes sense as clubs try to expose young players to varied experiences. He explained that clubs can only offer options, not dictate players’ futures, especially when they aren’t immediate first-team choices.
"It’s about what the coaches decide, the squad depth, and qualities compared to others in the same position. It’s not a bad scenario for Moore," Hendry said. "Going to Italy, Spain, or Germany would be an incredible experience. Bundesliga crowds and atmosphere are fantastic. Bayern Munich dominate there, but the exposure would be huge."
Despite his fondness for Rangers, Hendry believes the chance of Moore returning is slim.
Transfer Window and Next Steps
The Scottish transfer window remains open until September 3, a few days after England’s deadline, giving McInnes extra time to bring in reinforcements. Tottenham are expected to finalize Moore’s future soon as they wrap up pre-season and prepare for the Premier League kickoff. The general expectation is that Moore will move again before the month ends.
