Rafael Leão Discusses AC Milan Future: New Experience on the Horizon
Rafael Leão is no longer speaking in hints. The AC Milan forward has opened up again about the prospect of leaving the club, making it clear that his future is very much in play, even as he pledges full commitment to the Rossoneri shirt for as long as he wears it.
The Portuguese attacker, currently in Brazil for an event linked to his clothing brand, used the trip to address what comes next in his career. The setting was casual; the message was anything but.
“We'd already talked to the Rossoneri about the possibility of going elsewhere,” Leão said. “But as long as I'm with them, I'll give it my all.”
Those words land in the middle of a delicate summer for Milan. After the World Cup and with his return to Milanello scheduled for the 29th, Leão’s entourage has, according to reports, already opened talks with Fenerbahce. The interest is concrete enough to be named, but the player himself is keeping the door open without stepping through it just yet.
Speaking on the Brazilian podcast “Podpah”, Leão laid out the state of play between himself and Milan.
“I've already spoken to the club about the possibility of trying a new experience. I don't know if it will happen,” he admitted. “I have to report to Milanello on the 29th, and while I'm there, I'll give my all, always respecting the club that has given me everything.”
That tension between gratitude and ambition has defined his season. On paper, nine goals and three assists in Serie A is a respectable return. On the pitch, though, his campaign in red and black never truly caught fire, marked by stretches of inconsistency that mirrored a slowly widening gap between player and club.
The rift did not appear overnight. By early June, the 27-year-old had already voiced thoughts of leaving, signalling that this summer could be a decisive break after seven years in Milan colours.
Yet even as he edges towards the exit, Leão refuses to frame his departure—if it comes—as a divorce.
“I think it's a club that has helped me a lot in every way,” he said, underlining the bond that remains. “But in life, you have ambitions for other things too. If it happens, I'll study my options, but I'll remain an AC Milan player.”
For now, that is the paradox. A forward openly exploring “other things”, already linked with Fenerbahce, yet still bound to turn up at Milanello on the 29th promising to “give my all”.
The clock is ticking. Milan know it. Leão knows it. The next move will say everything about how both see their future.
