PSG Targets Jules Kounde: Luis Enrique's Defensive Blueprint
Paris Saint-Germain have set their sights on Jules Kounde, and this time the interest comes straight from the top.
According to reports in Spain and France, the Barcelona defender has been identified as a specific request from Luis Enrique, who wants the France international at the heart of his back line next season. At 27, Kounde is entering his prime, and PSG believe this is the moment to bring him home.
Enrique’s blueprint for Kounde
This is not a speculative enquiry. Enrique and his staff have already mapped out a clear role for Kounde in Paris. They see him where he made his name: as a central defender, not shunted out to right-back as he has often been at Barcelona.
That detail matters. PSG are ready to guarantee him a fixed place in the centre of their defence, a promise they consider a powerful card in negotiations. For a player who has never fully settled into one position at Camp Nou, the offer of clarity and continuity is no small thing.
The pursuit also carries the weight of the club’s hierarchy. RMC Sport report that president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is personally driving the move, determined to place another high-level French international under Enrique’s command.
Using the Torres talks as leverage
PSG are already at the table with Barcelona over a potential deal for Ferran Torres. Those talks are now set to become a vehicle for something bigger.
The French champions want to fold Kounde into the same negotiation, using the existing dialogue to push for a joint operation. The plan is simple: one formal meeting in the second week of August, one concrete initial offer covering both players, and a clear message delivered before the new Ligue 1 season kicks off.
Paris have done this dance with Barcelona before. Ousmane Dembele arrived last summer, Lionel Messi before that. The French club see those deals as proof they can prise major names out of Catalonia when the conditions are right.
They are convinced Kounde can be persuaded in the same way: a central role, consistent minutes, a project built to compete deep into the Champions League, and a return to his homeland.
Barcelona’s stance softens

The Catalan board are described as open to authorising the exits of both Kounde and Torres before the window closes, provided the figures make sense. It is a pragmatic stance rather than a fire sale, but it is a stance PSG intend to test.
