PSG Freezes Out Barcola as Liverpool Pursues Transfer
Bradley Barcola has been cut out of Paris Saint-Germain’s immediate plans, with the club deciding he will not feature in any match-day squad while talks over his future intensify.
The winger, who has made it clear all summer that he wants to leave, was missing from PSG’s group for the Trophee des Champions win over Lens, having been involved in the earlier UEFA Super Cup clash with Aston Villa. The omission was no rotation quirk. It was a statement.
Enrique draws a hard line
Sources close to the dressing room insist Luis Enrique has taken a firm stance: if a player is already looking beyond Paris, he will not be involved. The message is blunt – total commitment, or step aside.
Barcola now finds himself in that cold zone. With Liverpool in active talks to sign him, PSG have opted to protect both their sporting project and a major financial asset. The club are wary of any injury that could derail a sale expected to be worth more than £130 million.
The timing is not accidental. PSG played two competitive fixtures last week, fielding largely similar teams. The glaring change was Barcola’s disappearance from the squad list for the second match. That gap on the team sheet has now been explained.
New faces, old door closing
Inside the club, there is also a feeling that the transition has already begun. Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts are all coming in, effectively covering the role Barcola once occupied. His place in the pecking order has been filled before he has even walked out the door.
That only strengthens the sense of inevitability around a transfer. The early signals from both camps suggest Liverpool and PSG are confident of striking an agreement this week.
If that happens, Barcola’s last act in a PSG shirt may already be behind him.
Goalkeeper plans in disarray
While the Barcola saga moves towards a conclusion, another file has been thrown back open. PSG thought they had their new goalkeeper lined up, with Zion Suzuki set to arrive from Parma. The deal looked ready to be wrapped up, only to collapse at the final moment.
The club are now back to square one in their search for a long-term solution between the posts, even as Enrique’s outfield plans grow clearer with each team selection.
One door is closing, another remains stubbornly jammed. For PSG, the next week could define not just Barcola’s future, but the shape of Enrique’s project for the season ahead.
