Milan Rejects €10 Million Bid for Loftus-Cheek

Milan have slammed the door on Coventry City’s move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, rejecting a €10 million offer for the midfielder and making it clear he is not for sale this summer, according to Tuttosport.

The newly promoted Premier League side had earmarked the 30-year-old as a cornerstone signing for their return to the top flight. They went in early, they went in decisively – and were knocked back just as quickly. Milan’s response was firm, bordering on blunt: Loftus-Cheek is staying.

Amorim draws a line

At the heart of that decision stands Rúben Amorim. The new Milan coach has wasted no time in staking out his priorities, and Loftus-Cheek sits right at the centre of his plans for 2026-27.

Amorim is understood to have personally blocked the move, convinced that the Englishman’s tactical flexibility makes him indispensable to his system. Loftus-Cheek’s ability to operate between the lines, link phases of play and adapt to different roles has impressed the Portuguese coach, who sees him as a key pillar of his San Siro project rather than a saleable asset.

For now, that closes the door on a Premier League return.

Lampard reunion shut down

The decision also kills off what would have been one of the more intriguing subplots of the window: a reunion between Loftus-Cheek and Coventry manager Frank Lampard.

The pair worked closely together at Chelsea, where Lampard leaned heavily on the midfielder’s physical presence and ball-carrying from deep. Coventry’s bid was driven by that familiarity and trust. Lampard wanted a leader, a proven top-level profile to anchor his midfield in a demanding first season back in the Premier League.

Instead, the phone call from Milan was short. No negotiations, no counter-figure. Just a refusal.

Established in Serie A

Loftus-Cheek now prepares for his fourth straight campaign in Serie A. Since arriving from Chelsea in a €19 million permanent deal in the summer of 2023, he has carved out a reputation as a powerful, reliable presence in Milan’s midfield.

He has brought physical dominance, range, and a willingness to do the hard yards between both boxes. That profile has only grown in importance as Milan reshape their squad and identity under a new coach. For Amorim, losing such a piece on the eve of a new cycle never looked like an option.

A contract clock quietly ticking

Yet beneath Milan’s hardline stance lies a tension the club cannot ignore. Loftus-Cheek has less than a year left on his current deal at San Siro.

If no extension is agreed, the Rossoneri run the real risk of seeing him walk away for nothing next summer. Turning down €10 million today is a statement of sporting ambition; it could also become a financial regret if talks stall and the midfielder chooses a new path as a free agent.

For now, Milan have chosen the pitch over the balance sheet. Amorim has his man. The Premier League must wait.

The next move belongs to the club hierarchy: do they cash in their coach’s trust with a new contract, or gamble that this season with Loftus-Cheek in the engine room is worth the risk of losing him for free?
