Peter Shalulile Joins Young Africans: A New Chapter in Tanzania

Peter Shalulile has chosen a familiar face and a fresh frontier.

The Namibia international, who walked away from Mamelodi Sundowns after a glittering six-year spell, has decided his next chapter will run through Tanzania with Young Africans – and under a coach who knows exactly how to get the best out of him.

At 32, Shalulile hit the market as one of the most coveted free agents on the continent. Clubs from across Africa and the Middle East circled, sensing a rare opportunity to land a proven goal-scorer without a transfer fee. For a time, a reunion with Rhulani Mokwena at Pyramids FC looked the most logical move, a continuation of a successful partnership in a different shade of blue.

Then came the twist.

Instead of Cairo, Shalulile has opted for Dar es Salaam and a different reunion – with Manqoba Mngqithi, the man who helped shape his rise at Chloorkop. The two shared several trophy-laden years at Sundowns, building an understanding that turned Shalulile into one of Africa’s most reliable forwards and Mngqithi into one of its most respected coaches.

Now they link up again at Young Africans, a club with towering domestic expectations and growing continental ambitions. Mngqithi arrives as the new man in charge of Tanzania’s giants; Shalulile follows as the marquee forward who already speaks his football language.

They dominated together once. The question now is whether that old chemistry can ignite a new powerhouse in East Africa.
