Peter Okidi Joins KCB as Assistant Coach for Premier League Title Push

Peter Okidi is back in the FKF Premier League – and this time, he joins one of the most ambitious dugouts in the country.

KCB have confirmed the former Shabana head coach as their new assistant coach, naming him as Robert Matano’s deputy on Friday, 31 July, in a move that underlines the Bankers’ intent ahead of the 2026–2027 campaign.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Okidi as the club's assistant coach who will deputize head coach Robert Matano ahead of the new season,” the club stated, hailing “a wealth of coaching experience” built across Kenyan football.

From brief stints to the big stage

Okidi’s route back to the top flight has not been straightforward. His last assignment, at National Super League side Mombasa United, lasted just two months, a short spell that came after his mutual parting of ways with Shabana in March this year, when he stepped aside and was swiftly brought in to replace the axed Gilbert Selebwa at the coast club.

Now, he steps into a very different environment: a title-chasing KCB side and a touchline shared with one of the most seasoned coaches in the Kenyan game.

This latest role extends a coaching CV that has steadily grown over the past decade. Okidi previously held head coach positions at Nakuru All Stars in 2013 and at Nakuru Bucks, and also guided the Kenya U15 boys’ side, experience that has helped shape his reputation as a builder of teams and young talent.

KCB load up for a title push

The appointment is not an isolated tweak. It forms part of a wider technical overhaul as KCB chase what has so far eluded them – a maiden Premier League crown.

The Bankers have moved aggressively in the backroom. Alongside Okidi, the club has brought in former Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch as the new goalkeeper coach, adding a specialist with top-flight pedigree between the posts.

They have also strengthened the performance and analysis arm of the staff, hiring Tobby Owino as the club’s new Video Analyst, a clear sign that the club wants every detail, every phase of play, under the microscope.

For KCB, these are not cosmetic changes. With Matano at the helm, Okidi by his side, and a reinforced technical team behind them, the Bankers have laid out their structure. The question now is whether this revamped bench can finally turn promise into a first-ever league title.
