Peter Handscomb on the Challenge of Facing India’s Precise Bowling Attack

Leading the Australia A team on their tour in India, Peter Handscomb has encountered the intense challenge posed by Indian bowlers known for their remarkable precision. Despite a difficult start in the first unofficial Test against India A in Puducherry, the seasoned batter remains focused on adapting and finding ways to score.

Handscomb, 35, who has participated in 11 Tests against India, says that success in India demands more than just attacking the bowling. It requires spotting opportunities to put runs on the board even when the bowlers are consistent and rarely deliver loose balls.

"You've got to attack when you get the opportunity to score, but it is tough," Handscomb shared ahead of the second Test. "The Indian bowlers are incredibly accurate, consistent and don’t give a lot of bad balls. You’ve got to try and find a way to score off good balls. It can be tough when the ball misbehaves, but that’s the challenge of playing in India."

More than half of Handscomb's Test appearances have been against India, giving him deep experience facing some of the world's finest cricketers. He describes this as both a difficult and rewarding experience.

"It’s tough to keep coming up against India, but it’s also such an amazing thing to do," he said. "There are some of the best players in the world here and I’m lucky enough to have played against some of them."

For Handscomb, this tour is about balancing immediate performance with long-term growth and possibility in cricket.
