Pedro Neto Commends Portugal's Defensive Strength in Nations League Win Over Norway

Pedro Neto praised Portugal’s defensive determination following their important 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League. Goals from Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos secured the win, helping Portugal extend their lead in Group A4.

The match, played at Ullevaal Stadium, tested Portugal’s resilience as Norway applied heavy pressure. Neto, 26, emphasized his team's collective focus and tactical maturity throughout the intense contest.

Portugal Holds Firm Against Norway's Pressure

Speaking to Sport TV, Neto described the game as demanding due to Norway’s high-intensity pressing style. He acknowledged moments when Norway took control, particularly near the end of the first half, but stressed Portugal’s ability to remain composed under pressure.

"It was a very tough match against a team with a lot of quality, top-class players and high intensity," Neto said. "They pressed very high up the pitch with great intensity and we did well. At times, they managed to take control a little more - perhaps towards the end of the first half - but we were resilient."

Quick Reaction After Haaland's Equalizer

The turning point came early in the second half after Norway’s Erling Haaland equalized. Portugal responded swiftly with Ramos scoring just three minutes later, demonstrating their strong mindset and ability to handle setbacks.

"It’s one of the best ways to react to [conceding], Goncalo Ramos' goal came straight after that," Neto reflected. "The team, once again, managed to stay in the game and defended well."

Neto also admitted Portugal could have exercised better control with the ball but noted how difficult it was against Norway’s intensity on both ends of the pitch.

"We were very solid defensively. Perhaps, at some point, we could have controlled the game a little more when we had the ball, but that’s part of it. It’s not easy to come here and control a game against a team playing with such intensity. Both defensively and offensively, we put in a good performance."

Next Challenge: Denmark

Portugal will aim to keep their unbeaten run in Group A4 when they meet Denmark in their final international fixture of this window. The victory over Norway puts them three points clear at the top of the group. Meanwhile, Norway plans to recover quickly as they prepare for their upcoming away match against Wales.
