Ovie Ejaria Seeks New Club Through LinkedIn After Leaving Real Oviedo
Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria has taken an unconventional route in his search for a new team by turning to the professional networking site LinkedIn. After parting ways with Real Oviedo, Ejaria is now a free agent eager to showcase his versatility to potential clubs.
Free Agent Ready for the Next Step
At 28 years old, Ejaria's recent stint in Spain saw him make just eight appearances in La Liga for Oviedo, a club that unfortunately faced relegation last season. The former England Under-21 international has highlighted his experience at notable clubs including Liverpool, Sunderland, Rangers, and Reading to attract interest.
Highlighting Tactical Flexibility
Ejaria emphasized his ability to play across central midfield roles (6, 8, and 10) as well as on the left wing. In a public LinkedIn post, he wrote: "I'm currently a free agent and looking for the right opportunity. If there’s an opportunity or you know of a club looking for a midfielder - (6, 8 & 10) or someone who can play as a left winger, please feel free to DM me."
Steven Gerrard Reflects on Ejaria's Time at Rangers
The London-born player, still eligible to represent Nigeria internationally, had a promising loan spell at Rangers during the 2018-19 season under Steven Gerrard. However, Ejaria cut his loan short in December 2018, a move that frustrated the club's management.
Gerrard told the Glasgow Times at the time: "Am I disappointed he’s gone? Yes. Do I think it’s the right decision? No, because I think he had an incredible opportunity here."
Before Ejaria's departure, Gerrard praised his performances, especially during a critical Europa League play-off against FC Ufa in August 2018. After Connor Goldson scored the first-leg winner, Ejaria contributed significantly in the second leg in Russia by scoring early in a 1-1 draw that secured group-stage qualification.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Gerrard said: "I thought he was magnificent and I think that is his strongest 90 minutes that he has given us so far."
He added: "I think we have seen a lot of flashes and a lot of halves, some good performances, but I think that’s his first real excellent performance that he’s announced against a good team. I thought he was excellent from start to finish."
Looking Ahead
Ejaria is now seeking a new contract as the 2026-27 European season begins. Being a free agent means he can join clubs even outside the usual transfer windows. With experience across English, Scottish, and Spanish football, he hopes to find a new project quickly and return to professional action.
