Olivier Giroud Signals Possible Retirement After This Season

Just before turning 40 tomorrow, Olivier Giroud dropped a hint in an interview with L'Équipe that he might hang up his boots next summer. "As a player, I believe this will probably be my final season. That's why I'm savoring every moment," said the 2018 World Cup winner, currently playing for Lille.

A Long Journey Through Football

Giroud began his professional journey at Grenoble in 2006. By the time next year rolls around, he will have spent 21 years in football. During this time, he became the all-time leading scorer for France's national team, earning 137 caps and scoring 57 goals.

His club career includes winning the French league title with Montpellier, followed by successful stints in England. Playing for Arsenal and Chelsea, he collected four FA Cups, the Europa League in 2019, and the Champions League in 2021. In July 2025, he returned to France to join Lille, which could be his last stop in professional football.
