Napoli Nears Deal to Transfer Romelu Lukaku to Fenerbahce

Napoli are closing in on a deal to send Romelu Lukaku to Fenerbahce, a move that now looks like a matter of hours rather than days.

The Italian club initially pushed back a €6 million offer, holding out for better terms. The breakthrough came once Fenerbahce agreed to structure the fee with bonuses, unlocking an agreement that suits all parties, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Lukaku has already given the green light. The Belgian has accepted the move, completed his medicals, and the clubs are now trading the final documents. He is set to earn €10 million per season and will sign a one-year contract with an option, as reported by Mediaset.

For Napoli, the numbers matter. Forty percent of the fee they receive from Fenerbahce will go straight to Chelsea, but the deal allows the Partenopei to avoid a net loss on the forward. More crucially, it clears a huge salary from their books and opens up valuable room on the wage bill.

This exit has felt inevitable for months. In the spring, Lukaku’s departure was considered a done deal after he chose not to return from international duty to undergo rehab with the club ahead of the World Cup, preferring to work in his home country. The relationship never fully recovered.

Then came the twist. A coaching change for the Azzurri prompted Lukaku to reconsider and briefly reverse course. Massimiliano Allegri was open to keeping him, but only in sporting terms. From a financial standpoint, carrying such an expensive deputy made little sense for a club trying to rebalance its squad and salary structure.

It is easy to forget how decisive he once was in Naples. Two seasons ago, the 33-year-old played a central role in their Scudetto run, contributing 14 goals and 10 assists and leading the line with authority. That version of Lukaku powered a title charge and looked embedded in the club’s future.

The picture changed dramatically last season. A serious thigh injury sidelined him for most of the campaign, and as the months passed, tension grew. Napoli’s growing commitment to Rasmus Hojlund only deepened the sense that Lukaku was no longer central to their plans, on the pitch or off it.

So this is where it lands. A move that dragged on, with a few unnecessary swings along the way, now edges toward completion. Napoli avoid a financial headache and lingering drama.
