Mykhailo Mudryk Cleared to Return to Competitive Football

Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to return to competitive football immediately after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) cut short his four-year doping ban.

The Chelsea winger, 25, has been sidelined since November 2024, frozen out of all action after an "adverse finding" for the banned substance meldonium triggered a provisional suspension from the Football Association the following month. The FA then imposed the maximum four-year sanction, a punishment that threatened to wipe out a key stretch of his prime.

Mudryk appealed, and the case moved to sport’s highest court. Cas has now partially upheld that appeal, confirming that the Ukraine international broke anti-doping regulations but ruling that the suspension already served is sufficient. In its decision, Cas stated that Mudryk is eligible to return to competition "with immediate effect" after he accepted the rule breach and agreed to a ban equal to his time out of the game.

For Chelsea, it means a player once signed as a headline act is suddenly back in the frame. For Mudryk, it is something more stark: the end of a long exile and the start of a career that now has no more room for missteps.
